Facts AboutRenewable Portfolio Standards
Here’s why it’s so important for Nevada to increase its renewable portfolio standard to 50% by 2030.
NEVADA HAS PLENTY OF SUN
Nevada is one of the sunniest states in the country, but we only get 20 percent of our electricity from clean sources like solar and wind.
THE SUN AND WIND ARE FREE
Currently, Nevada gets 80% of its energy from out-of-state, through dirty fossil fuels like coal. And Nevada spends at least $700 million a year on dirty energy from out state. Not only would we keep that money in-state, the price of the sun and wind never change. They are always free!
Clean energy is already as affordable as dirty energy and prices keep getting cheaper while the cost of fossil fuels fluctuates.

The American Lung Association gave Clark County an F rating for air quality this past year. Cleaner air would reduce the rate of asthma and other respiratory diseases. With 1 in 12 Nevadans suffering from asthma today, it’s our responsibility to build a cleaner, healthier future for everyone in our state.
NEVADANS NEED QUALITY JOBS
More renewable energy would mean thousands of good-paying jobs for Nevadans. Renewables are already benefiting our state’s economy, creating more than 31,000 clean energy jobs, but we’re leaving jobs on the table.

A HEALTHIER NEVADA MEANS LOWER HEALTHCARE COSTS
Nurses and doctors say reducing pollution and improving our air quality will improve our health, which saves us all money on healthcare.
IT’S A GUARANTEE
Regardless of who provides your electricity, a 50% by 2030 renewable portfolio standard guarantees that 50% of it comes from clean energy sources.
