Nevada Conservation League Announces Governor Steve Sisolak as Keynote Speaker at Annual Awards Dinner Celebrating Environmental Leaders

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Nevada Conservation League is pleased to announce Governor Steve Sisolak as the keynote speaker at the organization’s annual Home Means Nevada Awards Dinner celebrating local environmental leaders. The event takes place on Thursday, September 29 at the Springs Preserve.

Steve Sisolak is a long-time public servant for the state of Nevada. He began his public service in 1998, where he served on the Nevada Board of Regents for 10 years and fought to increase state funding and make higher education more affordable. In 2008, Steve Sisolak was elected to the Clark County Commission where he served as Chairman, successfully managing the state’s largest county budget and led the county through the Great Recession.

As Governor, Steve Sisolak has demonstrated his commitment to protecting our environment and natural resources while advancing toward our clean energy goals. His leadership has initiated the state’s first climate strategy, expanded protections for our sagebrush ecosystem and migratory habitat, accelerated our clean energy economy with the signing of Senate Bill 448, and made history appointing the state’s first Senior Climate Advisor, all while leading the state in a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These actions not only demonstrate his understanding of the serious threat of climate change, but his commitment to taking bold action at the scale this moment requires.

Governor Sisolak received excellent grades in the Nevada Conservation League’s 2021 legislative scorecard, which evaluates how the state’s leaders vote to protect our climate, air, water, land, and communities. The scorecard examined the Governor’s performance in leadership, administration, appointments, and legislative session.

Governor Sisolak will join other environmental leaders being celebrated at the Home Means Nevada 2022 Awards Dinner. The yearly fundraising gala celebrates legislative progress made to better protect our climate, air, water, land, and health. Award winners – including the Harry Reid Lifetime Achievement Award, the Green Business Award, and the Green Guardian Award – will be announced in the coming weeks.
