The Plan Raises Costs While Giving Trillions in Tax Breaks to the Wealthy & Corporations
NEVADA – The Republican controlled House has finally unveiled their Budget Plan as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Their proposals will take healthcare and food assistance away from Nevadans, while raising costs and giving trillions in tax breaks to the wealthy and corporations.
President Michelle Maese and Executive Director Sam Shaw of SEIU Local 1107, issued the following statement:
“Donald Trump and Republicans are telling Nevadans that their healthcare and ability to feed their families are up for sale. Republicans are stripping millions of Americans, including Nevadans, of their healthcare and SNAP benefits to give wealthy donors and price gouging corporations tax breaks. Donald Trump continues to show working families in Nevada that he is not governing with them in mind, but instead his own self-interests.”
Shelbie Swartz, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, issued the following statement:
“Despite their worst efforts, House Republicans have managed to put together a massive budget proposal that threatens to cut almost $1 billion in SNAP benefits to Nevadans, a state where 1 in 6 people are considered food insecure. This kind of cruelty will blow a hole in Nevada’s budget, and lower income and rural Nevadans will suffer the most. Governor Joe Lombardo has done nothing to prepare for this budget catastrophe, choosing instead to sell off our public lands; and Nevada will be worse off for it.”
Leo Murrieta, Executive Director of Make the Road Action Nevada, issued the following statement:
“The federal reconciliation budget is a direct attack on working-class Nevadans. With over 500,000 people relying on SNAP and more than 800,000 depending on Medicaid, this plan shifts the burden onto states like ours—forcing impossible choices between cutting services or slashing essential programs like healthcare and food assistance.
“Governor Lombardo has failed to present a plan to protect Nevadans or push back against this harmful agenda. Nevada families deserve representatives who will stand with them, fight for their healthcare and food security, and reject a budget that puts our lives at risk.”
Kristee Watson, Executive Director of the Nevada Conservation League, issued the following statement:
“Trump’s ‘big, beautiful’ bill is a big, brutal betrayal of hardworking Nevadans. It would jack up our power bills, kill good-paying jobs, and hand our clean energy future to other countries instead of building up our competition on a global scale — all while giving billionaires more tax breaks. Rep. Amodei will have to explain to Nevada families why he voted to sabotage his own community in order to fund tax cuts for billionaires. Nevadans didn’t ask for this rollback – and we won’t stay silent about it.”
Laura Martin, Executive Director of the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada(PLAN) Action Fund, issued the following statement:
“Apparently, MAGA means taking away health care and food assistance from 13.8 million Americans, who are working class families, seniors on a fixed income, or folks with disabilities. These cuts that the Trump administration wants to make will fund tax breaks and loopholes that benefit only billionaires and the same corporations price gouging our communities. Our government must work for all of us, not just the wealthy. Taxpayers should not be funding a billionaire’s third yacht when crucial social safety net programs are being left behind. Who will answer when thousands of Nevadans find themselves with no health care coverage? Nevada’s congressional delegations, regardless of party, and Governor Lombardo need to leverage their power for everyday people in Nevada, not just the wealthy.”
Taylor Patterson, Executive Director of Native Voters Alliance Nevada, issued the following statement:
“Nearly 500,000 Nevadans could lose their food assistance. Over 760,000 could be kicked off Medicaid. And Governor Joe Lombardo is dead silent. No plan. No defense. Nothing. While families brace for empty cupboards and unpaid medical bills, he’s busy auctioning off public lands and kissing the ring of Washington power brokers. That’s not leadership—it’s cowardice. And every Nevadan left to suffer will remember exactly who turned their back when it mattered most.”
William Moore, Civic Engagement Director for Mi Familia Vota, issued the following statement:
“House Republicans have taken a hatchet to programs that Nevadans depend on. The cuts to Medicaid and SNAP that they have included will force lower income Latinos in Nevada to go hungry and lose their medical coverage. This is an attempt to transfer wealth away from struggling communities and rewards the wealthy. The budget, as passed, punishes Nevadans with callousness, greed and inaction. We will continue to fight for the dignity of our Latino community.”
