LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — Today, the Nevada Conservation League announced the winners of its annual Home Means Nevada fundraiser gala awards dinner on Thursday, Oct. 9.
The event celebrates NCL’s legislative and policy wins that help protect our environment while also recognizing decision makers, as well as awarding exceptional state leaders who worked to protect our climate, air, water, land, and health.
The winners will attend the Home Means Nevada 2024 Awards Dinner with other conservation leaders.
This year, the organization will award the following community leaders who share a vision for a better climate future:
- The Harry Reid Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an exemplary individual in Nevada’s conservation community who promotes all forms of environmental advocacy. It was awarded to Shaaron Netherton, the executive director of the Friends of Nevada Wilderness, for her decades of work protecting millions of Nevada’s public lands.
- The Green Guardian Award recognizes those whose work protects Nevadans’ quality of life, preserves resources, and protects Nevada from a scarcity of resources while promoting positive public health and protecting the environment. It was awarded to KTNV investigative reporter Darcy Spears for her reporting on NV Energy’s overcharge scandal and body of work.
- The Green Impact Award recognizes the important and influential strides of locally-based companies or partner organizations that place environmental consciousness at the core of their work. It was awarded to Chispa Nevada for the nonprofit organization’s tireless advocacy for the Latine community in Nevada.
