Governor Signs SB132, Unlocking Clean Energy Savings and Job Opportunities for Nevadans

Conservation and Community Advocates Celebrate Investment in NCEF

CARSON CITY, NV — Gov. Joe Lombardo has signed Senate Bill 132 (SB132) into law, affirming the state’s commitment to clean energy solutions that help Nevadans save money and grow the local economy. By investing in the Nevada Clean Energy Fund (NCEF), Nevada’s leaders are supporting smart, local, clean energy solutions that support the people and businesses in our state.

Sponsored by Senator Rochelle Nguyen, SB132 furthers the work of NCEF, a trusted partner delivering real savings for families, schools, small businesses, and communities across the state.

NCEF has already helped secure nearly $200 million in federal funding and launched statewide programs like Nevada Solar for All and the Clean School Bus initiative. These efforts are helping lower bills, reduce pollution, and create good-paying jobs, especially in rural and underserved communities.

“We’re grateful to Governor Lombardo and the Legislature for recognizing the importance of NCEF’s work to make clean energy more accessible and affordable,” said Kristee Watson, Executive Director of the Nevada Conservation League. “These resources will ensure that Nevada can continue to connect more families to the benefits of rooftop solar, energy efficiency upgrades, and electric vehicles.”

“Every day, we hear from families who are doing everything right but still can’t keep up with rising utility costs, especially during Las Vegas’s hot summer months,” said Dr. Mary House, CEO of CHR, Inc. “SB132 supports the work of NCEF — a trusted nonprofit with the expertise to help families lower their monthly bills and access clean energy. NCEF has been a strong community partner, putting money back into the pockets of the families who need it most.”

“We see firsthand how rising utility costs hurt working families,” said Shaunda Johnson, Executive Director of Faith in Action Nevada. “SB132 helps bring relief while creating good jobs and building healthier neighborhoods. We’re grateful to Senator Rochelle Nguyen for championing this important legislation.”

“Again and again, we hear from working Nevadans that they want to invest in clean energy and energy-efficient options but just can’t afford them,” said Audrey Peral, Chispa Nevada Program Director. “These upgrades would not only clean up the air we breathe but also lower electricity bills. We’re glad to see the state investing in the nonprofit Nevada Clean Energy Fund to help Nevadans take advantage of these cost-cutting programs, and we’re excited to help Latine families sign up.”

“The sun shines everywhere and everyone should be able to benefit from its rays,” said Julia Hubbard, Solar United Neighbors Nevada Program Director. “SB 132 will help Nevada families lower their energy bills by taking control of where their energy comes from.”
