Nevada Elects Pro-conservation Governor, Strong Conservation Majority In The Legislature

With Gov.-elect Aaron Ford and 96% of its endorsed candidates elected, the Nevada Conservation League turns to lowering energy bills and protecting Nevada’s lands and water in 2027

LAS VEGAS, NV — Nevada voters have sent a clear message, electing pro-conservation candidates up and down the ballot, starting with Governor-elect Aaron Ford.

Nevada Conservation Leadership PAC, NCL’s affiliated political action committee, invested $1.25 million in independent efforts, including one of the largest canvassing and get-out-the-vote programs backing his campaign. Canvassers knocked on nearly 50,000 doors, supported by a mail and statewide phone program.

Conservation majorities also grew significantly in the Nevada Legislature, and at least 96% of NCL’s endorsed candidates won their races.

“Nevadans overwhelmingly voted for leaders who will lower their energy bills and protect the places that make Nevada home,” said Kristee Watson, executive director of the Nevada Conservation League. “We went all in for Aaron Ford because he committed to stopping the flawed demand charge, holding greedy utilities and data centers accountable, protecting our water resources and public lands, and accelerating the transition from polluting fossil fuels to local clean energy. NCL’s efforts helped carry him across the finish line, and now we look forward to working with him and the Legislature to deliver this conservation agenda.”

Ford made energy affordability and conservation central to his campaign. He pledged to halt NV Energy’s daily demand charge, which takes effect in Southern Nevada on Jan. 1, and proposed requiring data centers to use clean energy, conserve water, and pay their own way. Clean energy can lower costs and protect Nevada’s natural resources, while unnecessary new gas plants would bring more pollution and lock Nevadans into decades of volatile fuel prices. NCL will push to meet growing demands with clean energy and to keep expensive new gas power off the table.

While some races remain too close to call, NCL-endorsed winners down the ballot include:
