LAS VEGAS — Nevadans, along with the Nevada Conservation League and our partners, will host a rally and press conference ahead of the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada’s (PUCN) General Consumer Session on October 22. The rally starts at 4:45 p.m. and the press conference begins at 5:15 p.m.
The rally and press conference will be held outside the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada office building at 9075 W. Diablo Drive.
Due to a hacking of the Nevada state government in August, the annual General Consumer Session at the PUCN was rescheduled to this date in October.
The General Consumer Session, which happens once a year, allows the public to discuss the totality of NV Energy’s pattern of scandals and bad deeds and speak directly to PUCN commissioners about their concerns on affordability, transparency, and accountability of utility monopolies.
After, rally attendees, advocates, and nonprofits will give public comment in Suite 250, Hearing Room A.
For members of the press who need to set up cameras and mics, please arrive at 5 p.m.
The rally and the press conference will highlight the pattern of bad behavior from the utility monopoly, including:
The overcharge scandal continues to grow, impacting more than 100,000 Nevadans
Lobbying PUCN to approve the General Rate Case, that shifts more costs onto customers: adding a first-in-the-nation daily demand charge to the public that is confusing and increases costs for households, and weakening net-metering in Northern Nevada.
Securing the PUCN’s approval to charge customers for a portion of Greenlink West construction costs before the project delivers service, despite earlier assurances they wouldn’t, even as construction costs have doubled and delays were caused by poor planning and interference with restricted airspace.
Passing on charges to customers for repairs that were caused by the utility’s own negligence.
The press conference will also highlight the voices of everyday Nevadans who were impacted by these actions and took heroic steps to speak out.
For members of the press attending or covering the event, RSVP with Camalot Todd, the communications director of NCL, at Camalot@
Nevada Conservation League and our partners are hosting this press conference and rally. The PUCN is not affiliated with this event.
The press conference will be live-streamed, and the meeting will be recorded on NCL’s YouTube Channel for media unable to attend. B-Roll and courtesy photos will be made available here.
