Rewiring America partners with Congresswoman Susie Lee, Nevada community groups, and local business to introduce new electrification incentives savings calculator for Nevada Households.
Las Vegas, Nevada – Today, Rewiring America was joined by Congresswoman Susie Lee, Nevada Clean Energy Fund, Nevada Conservation League, Caring Helping Restoring Inc., and Chispa Nevada to launch a Nevada-specific Energy Savings Calculator. The new calculator helps homeowners and renters find out how much they can save by taking advantage of new electrification incentives.
The new tool will help Nevadans quickly estimate how much they can save on energy efficient upgrades by leveraging incentives and tax credits created by the historic Inflation Reduction Act, and other state and local programs.
“The Inflation Reduction Act is a transformative piece of legislation that empowers American consumers to save money and support our transition to a clean energy future,” said Ari Matusiak, CEO of Rewiring America. “With this free calculator, Nevadans can easily see how much they stand to benefit from the myriad of incentives available for upgrading to energy-efficient appliances. Our partnership with Nevada leaders brings this valuable tool to the state, helping to make electrification more accessible and affordable for all Nevadans. This initiative is not just about saving money, it’s about investing in our homes, our communities, and our planet.”
“I helped pass the most significant climate legislation in our nation’s history to bring federal investments to southern Nevada communities on the front lines of the climate crisis,” said Congresswoman Susie Lee. “These investments are creating new jobs, driving a diverse, clean, and efficient economy, and unlocking our state’s energy potential — all while helping to lower costs. The savings that make it easier for hardworking Nevadans to live, work, start a business, and raise a family have never been easier to access. As our state works to build the clean economy of the future, I will continue fighting to ensure we have the resources needed to thrive.”
“Navigating a home energy upgrade can be hard, for example if a resident’s air conditioning breaks in the middle of another 110-degree day here in Las Vegas,” said Kirsten Stasio, CEO of the Nevada Clean Energy Fund. “The Rewiring America savings calculator is helping the Nevada Clean Energy Fund’s programs be more effective at empowering Nevadans to pursue clean energy upgrades and access cost savings.”
“As temperatures soar to unprecedented levels, improving energy efficiency and investing in clean energy builds resilience against extreme heat,” said Kristee Watson, Executive Director of the Nevada Conservation League. “Our door-to-door education campaign in Clark and Washoe counties empowered over 25,000 residents with Rewiring America’s incentive calculator, enabling smart upgrades that lower energy bills and combat rising temperatures. The Inflation Reduction Act empowers everyday Nevadans to be part of the clean energy revolution, promoting a sustainable future for all.”
“The Inflation Reduction Act, in conjunction with Nevada’s net metering program, is vital to helping Nevadans assess the many opportunities available through tax credits to afford more efficient heat pumps, rooftop solar systems, insulation, and other weatherization upgrades,” said Steve Hamile, COO of Sol-Up. “These incentives are the first step in helping consumers increase the efficiency of their household, lower their utility bill, and reduce strain on the energy grid. On behalf of Sol-Up, I applaud Nevada’s congressional delegation, including Rep. Susie Lee and Rewiring America, for ensuring all Nevadans understand the incentives available to them.”
“Extreme heat is disproportionately impacting our most vulnerable communities, escalating health and financial burdens for low-income families and communities of color,” said Dr. Mary House, CEO of CHR, Inc. (Caring, Helping and Restoring Lives). “No one should have to choose between cooling their home and feeding their family. That’s why helping families access tax credits and rebates for home improvements like better insulation and new windows that reduce energy costs and create healthy, comfortable homes is so important. We have a moral obligation to ensure these benefits reach the families who need them most, and Rewiring America’s incentive calculator is key to achieving this goal.”
“Like many others in my community, with the cost of living going up, I’m trying to eliminate any unnecessary expenses. But air conditioning is necessary in Las Vegas, where we have very hot weather that’s breaking records,” Yonathan Cornelio, Chispa Nevada Member and Nevada resident. “That’s why I’m excited about this calculator and the federal and state programs that will help us save money. Tax credits and rebates will help us keep money in our pockets. I’ve seen how homeowners with solar panels can save a lot on their electricity bills. I want other community members, even renters, to have access to these programs that will lower their costs. Every cent counts, and every bit we can save is money we can put towards our future.”
To use the calculator, Nevadans will only need to input a few details about their households to get personalized estimates about how much they can save on efficient electric appliances and energy-saving technologies. Rewiring America estimates that the average single-family household in NV could save $450 by insulating their home and switching to a heat pump; and the savings are much larger at $870 per year for the 19% of homes that heat with electric resistance.
The Inflation Reduction Act is the largest investment in climate action in American history. The law is helping American consumers save money while giving a boost to domestic manufacturing and energy independence. The legislation includes green energy incentives and tax credits that can help Nevadans save thousands of dollars on heating/cooling system upgrades, energy-efficient appliances, and electric vehicles.
Under the Inflation Reduction Act, Congress provided $9 billion to states nationwide for up-front discounts on electrification and energy conservation upgrades. States are tasked with administering these federal funds. The Silver State is getting $48,200,980 to establish rebate programs to support Nevandans in electrifying their homes and reducing total energy consumption.
Rewiring America received $5 million of funding and a team of 12 Google.org Fellows via the philanthropy’s Impact Challenge on Climate Innovation to help build the calculator. As part of the pro bono initiative, Google engineers, program managers, UX designers, and other professionals dedicated six months of their time to assist Rewiring America. The Fellows collaborated on various technical challenges, such as utilizing generative AI to speed up public data collection and language translation for Rewiring America’s Incentive API.
“It’s been so rewarding to see how technology like AI can help Rewiring America reach their goals even faster,” said Dena Rose, Google.org Fellow and Program Manager. “We’re hopeful that our work to help build these state-wide calculators will help homeowners and renters across the country make home energy choices that are right for them.”
Last Fall, the Nevada Clean Energy Fund launched its Residential Energy Upgrade Program (RE-UP) that supports Nevada homeowners and contractors with affordable financing and technical assistance for measures that reduce energy costs.
