NCL Releases Its Conservation Scorecard for 83rd Legislative Session

Scores show Nevada’s climate champions fought to hold utility monopolies accountable, advance wildlife connectivity, and more

NEVADA –  The Nevada Conservation League (NCL) released its Conservation Scorecard, a guide and resource for the public to understand how their elected officials worked to protect our climate, air, water, land, and communities during the 2025 Nevada legislative session, earlier this month.

Since 2003, NCL has created the Conservation Scorecard, which evaluates state representatives on their environmental bills and actions. Eighteen bills were selected for this year’s scorecard, spanning a wide range of conservation issues, including outdoor recreation, water, clean energy, and wildlife.

Additionally, Gov. Lombardo was graded based on four key categories: climate and clean energy, public lands and natural resources, agencies and administration, and the legislative session, and received a grade of C+ overall.

“It’s important to use the scorecard not as a stopping point, but as a progress report,” Christi Cabrera-Georgeson, the deputy director of NCL, said. “While we celebrate the leadership and progress made this legislative session, we must also continue to hold our decision-makers accountable and pursue further action to ensure Nevada remains at the forefront of environmental progress. The work to build a cleaner, healthier, and more affordable future is far from over.”

In the 83rd legislative session, NCL and our partners passed five policy priorities, including ensuring full refunds from utility monopoly overcharges, removing red tape to allow affordable housing residents to access solar energy, securing funding for outdoor education for our children, and advancing wildlife connectivity.

In addition to these priorities, over 30 pro-environmental bills were signed into law this session, most with bipartisan support.

Nevadans are encouraged to review the scorecard to better understand the decisions our elected representatives are making that directly affect our families, communities, and environment.
